Building Communication Confidence (Capstone)

Masters Student

  • Designed and implemented a professional development course to improve communication confidence among middle school teachers, addressing challenges in student learning, classroom conflict resolution, and student-teacher trust.

  • Developed and delivered five instructional units (oral, written, digital/visual communication, active listening, and non-verbal cues) through interactive lectures, group activities, and reflective practices.

  • Conducted a quantitative research study using pre- and post-Likert scale surveys, analyzing data to demonstrate an average 1.14 point increase in teacher confidence ratings, using a 1 to 5 scale.

  • Applied findings to advocate for targeted professional development and continuous improvement in educational practices.

Game of Life Program Creation

Academy East Bay

Guide & Assistant Head of School

In my previous role, I designed and implemented Game of Life, a comprehensive life skills curriculum focused on real-world adult responsibilities. I developed hands-on instructional activities, such as managing personal finances, navigating taxes, and simulating childcare, to engage students in practical learning. The curriculum was continuously evaluated and adjusted to ensure alignment with learning objectives, fostering essential skills for post-college life.

Adoption Center - Volunteer Dog Walker Onboarding

Independent Work/Passion Project

Created as a self-directed instructional design project to demonstrate training development skills.

This sample project was designed as part of my instructional design portfolio to showcase my ability to create engaging, learner-centered training materials. The scenario is fictional but modeled after real-world onboarding needs for a local animal shelter.

I designed:

  • A PowerPoint training deck covering onboarding, safety, and dog-handling techniques.

  • A quick-reference laminated card for volunteers to carry on walks.

  • An interactive “Check for Understanding” quiz to reinforce key concepts.

The materials reflect my skills in needs analysis, content organization, visual design, and creating accessible resources for learners of varying ages and experience levels.

Exploring The Hero’s Journey – Middle School ELA Unit

Independent Work/Passion Project

This 6-week, standards-aligned English Language Arts unit engages 6th–8th grade students in an in-depth exploration of Joseph Campbell’s Hero’s Journey framework. Through a blend of independent reading, film analysis (The Hunger Games), Socratic seminars, and multimedia projects, students analyze narrative structure, draw text-based comparisons, and make personal connections to the hero archetype.

The unit culminates in a dual final product—an analytical essay and a slide presentation—allowing students to demonstrate mastery in both written and oral communication. With scaffolded resources, peer feedback opportunities, and real-world connections, the design supports diverse learners while fostering critical thinking, collaboration, and creativity.
